{REVIEW} Simply Personalized - Child's Personalized Book!

 

Simply Personalized was kind enough to let me review one of their personalized books.  Since my son's birthday was coming up and he is starting to read, I chose "My Name is...".  It was the perfect book for him!

The book is a wonderfully delightful story about how the child's name was chosen.  Each page features a different letter in the child's name (as well as letters that are not in their name). The corresponding page has a fun illustration of something that relates to that letter.  For example, the page that talks about "A" has an "Apple Tree".

This book was designed alongside with education professionals!  A unique thing about this book, is that on the bottom of each page, there is space for the child to practice writing the upper case and lower case alphabet of whatever letter is highlighted on that page.

Our book arrived just a few days before my son's 5th birthday -- which was perfect timing! I was so excited to be able to give him this book as one of his gifts.  Being a boy, of course he received lots of toys, legos, games and such, but I have to say, this book is one that really stood out for him (and myself). He was so excited to see a book with his name in it. It was so cute to see his eyes widen and mouth drop in awe - a book....with HIS name on it. Of course, we had to read it immediately. And as soon as we were finished....read it again....and again. The excitement of his new birthday toys wore out fairly quickly. However, this book has been a staple in our lives since he received it.  It is his most requested bedtime book and what he shows to anyone who comes over for a visit.

The book has bright, colorful pages that really stand out. Each letter has a corresponding page with something new and fun to look at.  Each story page that talks about a specific letter has space for the child to practice writing that letter. It is beautifully bound and something that my son will cherish for years to come.

Recipe - Baby Oatmeal with Bananas

 It's hard to believe that my little love buy will be 1 in just a week! Where has the time gone? It feels like just yesterday when we were bringing her home from the hospital.

Her favorite foods right now are: avocado with egg yolks, apple baby yogurt, banana peach puree, yam and oatmeal with banana.  We've tried carrots, but they were a no go. She enjoyed peas for a while, but not anymore. I made both my son's and now my daughter's food from scratch using a Beaba. For my son, to thicken it, I would used the instant boxed oatmeal that you can get at various grocery stores (Earth's Best brand). For Ms. E, I wanted to try and make the oatmeal myself. I did some research and came up with this really simple and easy to do recipe.

First of all -- they are babies -- so they won't eat a lot. You don't need to make more than 1/4 or 1/3 cup of oatmeal. (I purchase regular oats from the grocery store).

When I'm ready to make, I boil 2x as much water as oats I'm going to cook. Let's say I'm going to make 1/4 cup of oats. Then I will boil 1/2 cup of water.  Once the water is boiling, I put in the oats and reduce the heat. It takes about 5 minutes. Stirring occasionally.  Once the water is all gone, I turn off the stove, but a top on the pan and let it sit a few minutes.  The next step is putting the cooked oats into the blender (we have a VitaMix). I add in 1 banana and just a little bit of water. Depending on how thick (or thin) you want your oatmeal to be you would add less/more water. I add maybe 2-3 tablespoons.
Once everything is together, I start to blend on a low setting. Slowly, I will turn the blender speed higher and higher until it is on almost the highest setting. From there, I will let it go for 2-3 minutes. After I turn it off, I taste test to make sure there are no chunks. It is delish and the baby loves it too. You can even add a dash of cinnamon to add even more flavor to it!

{Review} Pear Tree Greetings Personalized Children's Book Review

Personalized children's books are so magical! When I was a child, I had a book that was personalized with my name and I absolutely loved it.  I would read it over and over and was so in awe that there was a book...ABOUT ME! It was so fun to read my name -- in a book -- written just for me. It made me feel so special.  This is why I love children's books that are personalized with their names. It is something that is unique and so special to that child -- something that they will cherish for years to come.

I was given the opportunity to have a personalized book sent to me by Pear Tree Greetings to review. Since my daughter will be turning 1 this month, I chose the My Very Happy Birthday Book For Girls. They have 29 different personalized children's books to choose from...and let me tell you, all of the books looked so wonderful, that I really had a hard time choosing just 1. I ultimately, chose the birthday book since Ms. E's birthday is coming up this month, but there were so many others I was debating between.

My book arrived quickly -- much quicker than anticipated! I was so excited when it was delivered...but not as excited as when I opened the package and saw what an adorable book it was. It looked so professional! I was astounded not only by the wonderful quality of the cover and pages, but also the content. Seemingly every page had my daughter's name on there or some unique detail about her. The story was very sweet and cute about animals getting ready to celebrate her birthday. They talked in rhymes, making the story flow smoothly. This particular book was a board book, but Pear Tree Greetings has regular books as well.  The birthday books can be for ages 1-10 or there is the option of "any" which I'm guessing the book won't specify a specific age.
