{REVIEW) Disney Junior Live! Pirates and Princess Adventure

We are *HUGE* Disney fans in this household. Our television is pretty much permanently glued to the Disney Junior Channel.  My little Man (who is almost 5!!!) loves Jake and the Neverland Pirates, Sofia the First, Cars, Mickey Mouse, Doc McStuffins, Toy Story, Planes, Monsters Inc and of course Frozen. You name it -- If it's Disney related, he LOVES it!
My family and I had the amazing opportunity to attend the Disney Junior Live on Tour! Pirates and Princess Adventure show at City National Civic Theater in San Jose, CA on January 2, 2014.

The show was a wonderful, fun and entertaining adventure following Sofia the First and Jake and the Neverland Pirates. The first half of the show whisked the audience away to Enchancia. Sofia and her siblings are getting ready for the Annual Friendship Festival. It is the responsibility of the youngest royal (Sofia) to decide on a special gift to give everybody.  Since this is her first festival, she tries to figure out what the best gift to give would be. Cinderella makes a special surprise visit to help guide Sofia and help her realize the true meaning of being a princess and that a gift doesn't have to be big in size to be special.

The second half of the Disney Junior Live on Tour! features Jake and the Neverland Pirates as well as Captain Hook and his crew.  This portion of the show takes the audience on an exciting journey to find a treasure volcano! As expected, Captain Hook swoops in and causes trouble for Jake and his friends, trying to beat them to the volcano.  Along the way, Hook gets caught by Tic Tock Crock. Jake sees that Hook is in trouble and instead of going for the treasure, he stops to help Captain Hook. Once everyone is safe and sound, they find their treasure volcano and with the help of the audience, the volcano erupts with gold doubloons!!!

When I asked my son what his favorite part of the show was, he said it was when Jake saved Captain Hook from Tick Tock Crock and when the volcano exploded with treasure!

My little guy as well as my almost 9 month old daughter were captivated from the beginning. The little one was even singing along with the music...well...more like baby squealing....but she was definitely enjoying the show as well! The lights, sound, music, dancing was put together beautifully. The length of the show works perfectly for the age range Disney Live! is targeting (each segment was 30 minutes with an intermission in-between).  It was just the right length - not too long, not too short.

If you have young ones in your home, I would definitely recommend checking out a Disney Live! performance the next time they are in your area!

Disclosure: I was provided with tickets to the show for review purposes. I was under no obligation to write a positive review.  All opinions expressed are completely 100% my own based on my experience and are not influenced by any form of compensation.

  1. I saw this show in NYC on April 19 2014 at 11am, when they did an autism-friendly performance (they were in the city from April 17-21 but I specifically wanted to go to the autism-friendly performance)
I videotaped the entire show (see this link - the video was not posted on YouTube to avoid copyright trouble: http://www.4shared.com/video/ejf7iCg2ce/-2_online.html) but the quality is not great because my camera didn't like the lighting and having to zoom in. The staff was very nice, even the security guards who are normally very serious. They had volunteer ushers in addition to the regular FOH staff, who gave me fidgets and character guides to take home. I'm sad that the show is closed now. I want to see it again.
PS. In the video you can notice some things are a little different: the pirates did not go out during intermission and nobody was invited onstage at the beginning of Act 2, and when Captain Hook sprayed the water gun, he pointed it at his fellow crew members instead of at the audience. Can you please ask Disney and Feld Entertainment to revive the show someday?
